Later Abstracts

The themes for his later abstracts were inspired by poetry, music and his interest in philosophical ideas.

Music was his constant companion as he painted and he dedicated his final exhibition in 2000 to the Third Programme.

He was particularly interested in the writings of William Macneile Dixon, Walter Pater and Gilbert Murray and used the discovery of the double helix in many of his paintings.
