When Ralph retired, he committed himself to painting. He was to devote more than thirty years to this endeavour until failing sight called a halt.

His first exhibition was in the Alwin gallery London in 1968.

The painting opposite featured in the exhibition catalogue. Many of the subsequent paintings were from this exhibition.
